AFTER
CARE
You've got your extensions in. Here's everything you need to know to keep them looking brilliant for as long as possible.
What to Expect
Carry on as normal
These are small colour flashes on nano extensions, not a major procedure. You can get on with your day as usual straight away. Just take a bit of care when brushing until you get used to the feeling of the bead(s) in your hair.
A little shedding can happen
Some light shedding is possible but we always aim to source the best quality nano extensions so it really shouldn't be much at all. If you're losing a noticeable amount, get in touch.
Tightness is not normal
A little unfamiliarity is fine as you adjust, but actual pain or tightness is not something to push through. If anything hurts, contact us straight away.
The colour will evolve (and transfer)
Semi-permanent colour fades gradually and beautifully over time. It won't go patchy or brassy. It just softens. One thing worth knowing though: the colour can transfer onto fabric, especially when wet. So if you're heading to your Gran's for a sleepover, maybe chuck down a towel to keep her pillows nice and stain-free.
Keeping Them
Looking Good
Brush from the bottom up
Always detangle from the ends first and work your way up. Never yank from the root. A wide-tooth comb or a loop brush is your best friend.
Use sulphate-free shampoo
Sulphates strip colour fast. Switch to a sulphate-free shampoo and your colour will last significantly longer. Wash in cool or lukewarm water too.
Condition the lengths, not the roots
Keep conditioner and masks away from the bead attachment points. Apply from mid-length to ends only. Product build-up around the beads can loosen them over time.
Protect it at night
Sleep with your hair in a loose plait or bun, or use a silk pillowcase. Friction from cotton pillowcases causes tangling and speeds up colour fade.
Go easy on the heat
Heat styling is fine but always use a heat protectant spray first. High heat fades colour faster and can dry out the extension hair. Keep it below 180 degrees where you can.
Chlorine and saltwater
Both will fade your colour faster and can dry out the hair. If you are swimming, wet your hair first and apply a leave-in conditioner before getting in. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
Fading is
Part of the Fun
Semi-permanent colour fades gradually and gracefully. It doesn't go wrong. It just evolves. And when you're ready for something new, you can re-colour straight over the top.
How long will it last?
That depends on your hair, how often you wash it, and how you look after it. Most people get 6 to 12 weeks of vivid colour before it starts to noticeably soften. With good care you can push that further.
Re-colouring is easy
When your colour has faded and you want to refresh it, you can apply new semi-permanent colour directly over the extensions. No stripping, no bleach, no damage. Just pick your shade and go again.
Better for the planet
Semi-permanent colour contains no ammonia and no peroxide. It doesn't permanently alter the hair structure. That means less damage, less waste, and a much smaller environmental footprint than permanent dye.
Move-ups and
Removal
As your hair grows, the nano beads will move down the hair shaft. You'll need a move-up every 2 to 4 months to keep them sitting correctly at the root.
When to book a move-up
When the beads have moved more than about 3 to 4 cm from your scalp, it's time for a move-up. Don't leave it too long. The further they drop, the more tangling you'll get.
Never pull them out yourself
Nano beads need to be opened with the correct pliers before removal. Pulling them out without opening the bead first will cause breakage. Your kit includes pliers. Use them, or come see us.
Removal is straightforward
Open the bead with the pliers, slide it down the hair, and the extension comes out cleanly. No chemicals, no damage. The extension hair can often be reused too.
